What is B-PALACE ART?
Beyond its monumental façades and iconic views, every city has a silent, hidden face: its “side B”. It is in the marginal spaces, in the backs of buildings and overlooked corners that an authentic part of urban life lies concealed, made of traces and untapped potential waiting to be rediscovered.
This observation gave rise to B-Palace Art, the contest promoted by Cromatica - Marcegaglia and Sandrini Metalli, which invited students and young designers to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, giving voice to what had remained invisible. At the heart of this vision is steel, a strong and versatile material that – thanks to Cromatica technology and Sandrini Metalli’s expertise – becomes a narrative surface in a new dialogue between form and light.
It’s the architecture and design contest promoted by Cromatica – Marcegaglia Steel and Sandrini Metalli.
The goal? To breathe new life into the "B-sides" of buildings – the secondary facades – through creative and sustainable projects using steel printed with Cromatica technology and shaped with SANDCustom solutions.
Imagine a city where every wall tells a story. Where B-sides are no longer forgotten, but become new surfaces for expression. Where a nondescript courtyard transforms into a vibrant hub of creativity, and a faceless building becomes a landmark — a visible signature on the urban fabric.
This isn't just about aesthetics. Redevelopment means giving new meaning to spaces, retelling the story of a place, and at the same time improving durability and reducing the environmental impact of buildings. Steel makes it possible to reinterpret the past without erasing it, to build the future without waste, and to redesign structures that are made to last.
How to participate
Participation in B-PALACE ART is open to students enrolled in universities and design academies.
